ABOUT TOUR
A journey to the mystical three-colored crater lakes Kelimutu, Kelimutu National Park, Flores island. These crater lakes are the result of a powerful eruption of Mt. Kelimutu long time ago. Local community believes that the lakes are resting place for departed souls, which each colors are representing karma. The red lake “Tiwu Ata Polo” is for villain, the white lake “Tiwu Ata Mbupu” is for the elders, and the blue lake “Tiwu Nua Muri Ko’o Fai” is for the youngsters. The area of Kelimutu National Park is 50 km², consisting of the crater lakes, Mt. Kelimutu, and Mt. Kelibara as is highest peak of 1,731m.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Ende, Central Flores Island
Take flight to Ende (Haji Hasan Aroeboesman Airport), meet your local guide here, and begin the journey. Stop for lunch before heading to Moni for overnight. Moni is a village, the nearest point to Kelimutu National Park. It is 2 hours drive from Ende to Moni, crossing the winding trans Flores road but presenting a wonderful natural panorama of green mountains and rice paddy terraces. Stay overnight in Moni (recommended hotel is Kelimutu Ecolodge).
Day 2: Explore Kelimutu National Park & Surrounding
An early drive to Kelimutu at 04.00 am (40 minutes drive), then continue on foot to the peak of Mt. Kelimutu (30 minutes walk). Stay and relax while waiting the sun to rise, and enjoy the mystical view of three-colored lakes below. Return to Moni for breakfast and departure. Visit a traditional village Saga and explore a waterfall nearby. Enjoy lunch in the village with locals. Drive to Ende in the afternoon for overnight (recommended hotel is LCR Hotel).
Day 3: Returning Flight
Enjoy breakfast at leisure. If the time permits, you’re going to visit a museum of Bung Karno, the Indonesia’s founding father who was exiled here in 1934-1938 by the Dutch. Check-out and direct transfer to the airport for your returning flight.
